Where does one begin to write about Lincoln? It was a privilege and a pleasure to have shared over 15 years of my life with this sound, easygoing companion. Never in my wildest dreams did I envision the influence this big roly poly 6 month old UK puppy was to have on the breed or on myself. * OSX, Outstanding Sire Excellent and HOF, Hall of Fame are titles conferred by our parent club, Field Spaniel Society of America. **TDI, Therapy Dogs International, is one of several organizations setting criteria, testing and certifying dogs to work as therapy dogs. April 11, 1992-November 1, 2007 No one could have asked for a better buddy. Lincoln was always happy to do whatever was called for: trot around a show ring, heel attentively in the obedience ring, visit a nursing home, breed a bitch, or sleep peacefully at the foot of my bed. He almost never displayed fear, hesitation or shyness in any situation, and always insisted on making new friends wherever he went. Until his final day, he never lost his zest for life. He will forever be my poster child for soundness. As of this writing, (November 2007), he is the sire of 46, and there is frozen sperm stored, awaiting the most meaningful breeding opportunities. His oldest litter is over 14 and his youngest is just over 4 years old. His progeny include: 18 conformation champions, the only Field to earn a tracking champion title, one of only two Fields to earn a versatility title, several agility, tracking and obedience titles, the first Canadian Best In Show Field and a Best in Specialty Show dog. Some of his younger offspring are still competing and will earn additional titles. It is primarily the achievements of his offspring that earned him a permanent place in our breed’s Hall of Fame. He was also the first imported Field Spaniel to earn titles on both ends of his name, and to this day remains the only British Field to earn an obedience title. Show dog, obedience dog, stud dog, therapy dog, ambassador for the breed, couch potato, and, above all, my most delightful and faithful friend, his sound temperament, impeccable structure and movement will be long remembered as his legacy to the breed. Additionally, sadly, he was the last surviving dog to bear the Lydemoor prefix. His death has closed the history book on a great and highly influential UK kennel. |
